It's The Great Pumpkin. Or Maybe A Squash.

It's Thursday, and time to show off some of those thrifty treasures.

On Sunday, Annie and I went to an estate sale at a very large house in a nearby community. Lovely home, with some lovely things that even at the end-of-sale discounts were too pricey. Things like Orrefors crystal, Waterford, Lenox . . . so instead, I got something marked this way:

I never heard of it, either.
But I do love tureens masquerading as make-believe vegetables.

Along with it, I got this leaf-shaped dish.
I also love plates masquerading as make-believe vegetation.
I mean, who doesn't?

The tureen has a lid, and a ladle.
All in perfect shape. Ten bucks for both pieces.

It's going to live up on top of our kitchen's make-believe Welsh Dresser.
How fitting.

It was at this same estate sale that Annie scored
a dozen beautiful demitasse cups, and I got a
fan-shaped silverplate vase.
Click on the picture if you are curious.

And that piece of Majolica I found at Goodwill for
$6.99?
Its twin just sold on eBay for $265.00.
Sweet.
Click on the thumbnail if you want to see more pictures;
it's the same post as the one above.

As for me, it's back to the grindstone; the Big 90th Birthday Party for my Dad is on Saturday. Today I made sure I had more than 40 napkins to go with the tablecloths and plates, and enough knives and forks as well -- now some quick polishing is in order! -- Cass

  9. Rockin' the thrift shops and sales. Cass I would check out that shelf on your cupboard there. It looks like if you put one more piece on it, it looks like it will give in and collapse. Just one more piece.

  15. Cass-I've been catch up tonight on your blog...and yes, I can stay inside; I'm old enough to remember all those things :) Love the tureen and I cannot believe the majolica!! You scored. I have a "Lucy" glider that I am working on for my daughter's deck. It belonged to my grandmother. Replicas of the chairs are selling for lots $$$ ! Finally, I am impressed with your lunch made of leftovers! I'd have sent my family to the golden arches :) It looked delicious!

  16. You certainly got a couple of great finds. The plate is just waiting to be heaped with candy. I like vegetable dishes too. The set including the asparagus dish looks great up on that shelf. Estate sales are fun, you never know if you will find treasures or just more stuff. You found treasures.
