Fiesta-ing at the Dollar Store!

Last week, I wandered into our local Dollar Tree store,
and was smacked in the eyeballs with this display:

Great Caesar's Ghost!
If it isn't some great Fiesta-look dinner ware,
in brilliant colors, for a buck apiece.

Before this week gets much older, I'm heading back for some of this.
What happy summer time dishes!
I really like the shape of the bowls, nice and deep for ice cream.
Or, strawberries and cream.
Or, blueberries and Greek yogurt.
Or, just a pile of glossy sweet grapes!
I'm not a huge fan of orange, but these dishes are irresistible.  Especially the orange.
I'm seeing a thrifty tablescape in my future.

Also last week, my friend Emily and I headed north for some antiquing.
Doesn't this old red door look as if it belongs on an old building in the French countryside?
Nope, it's on an old New Jersey building, a closed Abbey.
More on the Abbey in another post.

Have a lovely day!  -- Cass

A little note:
Dollar Tree doesn't pay me for saying "Wow! Look what they've got!"
And also -- obviously these are not the genuine Fiesta ware dishes; they are knock-offs.
So I don't know how well they will wear, but for the price
they are fun and adorable and just in time for summer.

  1. I love...love...love Fiestaware. My affair with it began after my Mother passed & I got all her vintage pieces. While there was not really many I learned what it was & purhased some new Fiestaware settings. Now hey... I would buy a knock-off.... Martha Stewart isn't coming to eat off it!! LOL!!LOL!!
    Have a Wonderful Day!!

  6. How in the H--- do they sell those dishes that cheap? No wonder no one wants to spend anything on something good, when you can get somethin good looking for nothing. This is where the world is headed. Richard from My Old Historic House.

  13. My gosh- That does look just like the old Fiesta ware. My Mom owned Fiesta ware back in the 50's. I think it was considered the "poor person's china" back then! Love the door-I love all old doors! xo Diana

  15. When I finally found a Dollar Tree in northern WA State I was over the moon. The next time I'm south of the border I'll look again - these dishes look like just the thing for outside dining.

  18. And I see both my comments got published. Since then I have been to our dollar store and there they are! The world surely is shrinking. This is not the first time I've read a blog post from across the country about a store item and found it in our local version of that store. Amazing when you think of it! Our display, though, was not nearly as pretty as yours.

I love those dishes - I don't know if we have a Dollar Tree around here.... I need to find out. What a shame they don't have some in purple!!!!!
Hmmmmm.... the teal and greens would look awesome in the cabana..............

  27. I already purchased the green bowls and orange and yellow plates. Our store didn't have a big shipment and they were sold out in about 3 days. I think the back is stampled "Royal Doulton." They are definitely worth a buck apiece!
