The First Iris Blooms!

It greeted us this morning --
the first iris to open its wild and woolly petals for the season.

We've been watching it all week. It's peach and white.

Howard got up close and personal with his camera.

I love the texture. Can you imagine a fabric with the texture of the
very lightest part of the petals, with their almost-not-there stripes?

Peek-A-Boo!

Isn't it spectacular? I adore iris blossoms. They just may be my favorite spring flower.
Along with tulips, poppies, bleeding hearts, lilacs, peonies . . . .

I'm hoping that in one week, on the day of my Dad's 90th birthday party at That Old House, all the irises will be in full bloom. They wear their party clothes so beautifully, don't they?

What is your favorite spring bloom?

Meanwhile, Howard and I are heading out . . . yes, a Craigslist pickup, plus a visit to the paint store and Home Depot. Have a wonderful weekend! -- Cass

  7. Oh so pretty indeed -- I have a spring long list of my favorites too, and Howard did good on taking the best macros.

I once tried to buy a dilapidated old ramshackle of a house because the whole 1/2 ac front yard was filled with beautiful Irises-- the bank manager said to me -- my dear -- just ask them for some of the bulbs. So move over dandelion flowers the Irises are coming.

    Have a joyful week end.
