Cinnamon Sticks From Bobi's Kitchen

It is late on Thursday night, and my daughter Alida just texted me; her plane has touched down at West Palm Beach Airport in Florida. I'm always relieved when my peripatetic child comes safely back to earth, and am glad she lets me know.

"What does this have to do with Foodie Friday and Cinnamon Sticks?" you ask.

"Plenty," says I.

Alida is in south Florida for a conference at a university, and will be staying with her grandparents in Delray Beach, her Bobi and Zaide, my husband's parents. They are thrilled to have her there until Monday, and one thing I know for certain: my daughter will not starve and she might even bring a couple of extra pounds back to California when she leaves.

**************************************************************************************

Back in late January, I blogged about our trip to Florida, including my mother-in-law's gift to me of an antique Mason ironstone plate, and her gift to my husband of her delicious cinnamon sticks.

Plate, and pastries.

I promised to post the recipe.

I am keeping my promise on this Foodie Friday.

BOBI'S CINNAMON STICKS

2 eggs
2 TBS sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 packages dry yeast, dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water
1/2 lb. butter or margarine, melted
3 cups all purpose flour

In a bowl, beat eggs, beat in sugar. Add dissolved yeast, melted butter and flour -- mix well.
Cover bowl and refrigerate overnight.

Cut chilled dough into 8 sections. Sprinkle counter or board generously with sugar and cinnamon and roll out one section of dough. Cut the dough circle into 12 triangles. Put a few raisins and/or chopped nuts at the wide end of the triangle, and then roll up tightly.

Repeat with remaining dough.

Place on greased cookie sheets and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove to cooling racks immediately. And . . . enjoy!

  20. I can smell the cinnamon clear over here in OH! This brings back wonderful memories of my aunt's similar creations. Thank you for sharing the recipe, Cass. She died before I was old enough to even think of baking.

Love your beautiful marble topped sideboard, too. I forgot about Laurie's Favorite Things meme. :-(

BTW, "peripatetic" is one of my most favorite words. I remember how they used to refer to Pope John Paul II as such. I had to look it up to understand the meaning waaaay back then. I have a step-son who is peripatetic & filling his FOURTH passport book!!!
