A Half-Baked Metamorphosis in Mosaic, and The Winner Is . . .

It's Monday! Not necessarily a reason to celebrate, but it's also Mosaic and Metamorphosis Monday, so I'm happy.

Plus, there's a winner for my Giveaway of last Friday. More at the end of the post!

This is the first day since May that our mercury will clamber up above 90-degrees Fahrenheit.
Can't complain; it's August and about time.

But it is not a day that makes me feel ambitious. I am better at planning on a day like today.
Not as good on the follow-through.

Today, I'm taking a look at the partially-done Metamorphosis of our Pink Bedroom.

Now, for some details. . . .

The Pink Bedroom is in the 1830s part of the house, and has its original wide pine plank floorboards. I love this room. It's big and square and bright, with 4 windows, two closets, and -- like so many rooms in That Old House -- not a lot of wall space.

It's in the midst of its Metamorphosis.

It was white when we bought the house:

We were grateful it didn't have old wallpaper, but we never figured out what this was for:

It was a deep counter-height shelf, with a normal depth shelf above it. Any ideas?

The last owners didn't know; it had been there when they bought the house and they left it.

Well, we began a Metamorphosis. The odd old shelf area was taken down:

the walls were repaired

and painted.

This room insisted on being pink, so I chose Benjamin Moore's Shell Pink, No. 883 in the Classic Colors group.
It's a pink that just flirts with peach.

The trim is Moore's Atrium White, Number I-79,
a standard white that we used on woodwork throughout the house.

The old ceiling fixture was a copper replica of what was supposed to be a lantern, and it was not a success. I wanted a bit of girly sparkle in this room, as my daughter Alida uses it when she is at home, and it is nominally "her room:"

I found a 4-poster mahogany bed on Craigslist, added a new mattress and box spring,
and some white bedding including a matelasse coverlet:

Put my 30-year old Ethan Allen loveseat in the corner, with Annie's dress form looking on:

The mirror is from my Dad -- an old oak frame, much used, and very funky glass.
No one has to age this baby -- it comes by its shabbiness honestly!

A gentleman was selling a Pennsylvania highboy on Ebay; I bid.
$125 and it was mine. And he even met me at a local diner to hand it off to me!

I think it looks a lot better than that oddball shelf thing, don't you?
Even with a plastic bin with odds and ends of Alida's stashed underneath.

I put up bamboo rollup blinds, but the privacy liners fell out. I must remedy that, and I also must get down to business and sew some curtains. I have the fabric (it's in the mosaic), just need the will power. The room also needs a rug to warm up tootsies on chilly mornings, and it's in serious need of thoughtful pretty-ing. Right now, stuff's just sort of there.

You must have rooms like that. Please say yes.

I am hoping that posting this half-finished room will get me moving on this project again!
