Confessions of a Weihnachtsbaum Junkie

I confess: I am addicted to Christmas Trees.

No other holiday bling is as mesmerizing as a Christmas tree.

I even put a tiny tree, a gift from my daughter Anne, at the side of my kitchen sink:

The card stock backsplash is temporary while we slowly remodel the kitchen!

In our powder room, a wee Santa Claus tree greets visitors.
(Get it? Wee? I crack myself up.)

In our front hallway, a tabletop tree, decorated by Anne for a past dorm room:

In the dining room, a spiral tree in the middle of the bay windows.
No ornaments, just lights.

At the front entry, a small tree with lots of red balls and
red gilded apples, and glass Santas and Snowmen, by day:

And by night:

Turn around from the front door, and look up the center hall stairs,
where a topiary tree stands sentry outside Annie's sleeping room:

My feather tree, from Winterthur's Museum Shop, is on top of the old pie safe in the sunroom:

I have to edit the ornaments for the feather tree, or it tips over.
I just love collecting the mini decorations.
It's so cute and so much fun. You should have one, yes... you should!

Our girls' tabletop tree, in the study, by night:

And by day:

In the Parlor, a tall artificial tree holds court. Night, and day, pictures:

Yeah, Christmas trees sure do look better at night.
Come to think of it, so do I.

Back in the conservatory, the fresh tree, everybody's favorite, and always a Frasier Fir:

Our trees are a rag tag group, with a hodgepodge of ornaments, from home-made lovelies and uglies to Lenox and Waterford, from Dollar Tree to Lord & Taylor. Some are older than me, others are brand new. They all find space on a branch. No themes, no color-coordinated decorator beauties. Our trees hold memories, and lots of them.

I love to look at and admire beautifully and carefully decorated, themed or color-coordinated Christmas trees, but I love to live with Trees Gone Wild for my 12 days of the holiday.

And that Frasier Fir in the sunroom? It holds 1700 colored lights. Bling-Bling!
My husband Howard is a Christmas-lights junkie.

What is, or was, on your Christmas tree(s)?
A crazy jumbled slumgullion of glitter and gleam, or a carefully edited collection?

Now go visit Sue at It's A Very Cherry World! for more REDnesday posts; Sue is like me -- having a hard time letting go of Christmas. Don't worry Sue -- no need, we've still got a week until Epiphany!

And visit Susan, host of Outdoor Wednesday, as she lets us continue to post holiday greenery, both indoors AND out, on her lovely A Southern Daydreamer blog. Gorgeous photos! You can spend a lot of time in Susan's beautiful world!

  1. Oh Cass, you just crack me up too! I have to remember to put a "wee" tree in my bathroom next year, lol. Love all your trees, but the feather tree is my favorite.

We didn't put up our usual tree this year, but I did do seashell tree for the coffee table. Not sure, but I think you missed that post. It was fun for a change, but I'm looking forward to a real tree next year already, lol.

  3. I didn't realize you had so many trees in so many places (the wee tree is cute, hate to turn my back on it though...). All of the trees are pretty. Funny you should mention us getting a feather tree...I just ordered one today from The Vermont Country Store (for next year). They are SO cute!! And as far as themes, I am the hodge podge type too, I can't do away with anything unless it is totally broke, so it all goes up!!

Love the conservatory tree...so majestic. Well, I just love all of them, Cass!

Have a wonderful, happy & healthy New Year!! :-)

    xoxo

  5. Love all your trees! The only room I don't have at least a small tree is our bathroom. I've got to get one of those wee trees too! I'll have to be careful with where I put it though! I'm with you. The trees will come down on New Year's Day at the earliest.

  6. Holy Mackrel - you do love trees. I love the "wee tree" too funny. We have a frasier in the foyer and then several feather trees scattered here and there, but nothing like your collection.

    Happy New Year!

  7. Fröhliche Weihnachten Cass.
Your trees are beautiful, every one of them. I really like the one on the staircase landing. It is inviting people upstairs.
I do have a small tree in the main bathroom. It has the "fun" decorations on it. You know the fishing ones, the basketball one (I loves me my Hallmark Karl Malone figure)stuff like that.
I don't know where I would store all the other ones and their decorations. Someone would have to move out of the house to make room. I'm just saying.

  11. They are all beautiful. We would have several trees if we had the room. We do have a couple smaller trees that next year I think we will put up, this being our first year in our smaller space we were not sure what all would work! We have enough ornaments for many trees!

  12. We had 1900 lights on our tree this year - it really was bling bling!! Just three trees this year - I'll have more next year. All your photos are great!!!!

  13. Are you a treeaholic?! You're so lucky to have the room, and energy and creativity, to have so many trees! The one in the conservatory is amazing. I like the trees that have no theme the best. Just favorite ornaments, family heirlooms, whatever. I must confess that I've been trying to find a slimline white tree. Don't tell my husband!
Wishing you happiness and prosperity in 2010, and Happy Rednesday!

  17. Cass --

There is but one tree at Linderhof -- oops, I do have a little Victorian glass enclosed one in the breakfast room.

All of your trees are darling -- I thought WE had a lot of ornaments -- you put us to shame!

Do stop by and see our tree -- it's big, it's blingy with big colored lights and tinsel! (A picture is in our Christmas Day post)

It's an old fashioned tree -- like the kind we grew up with.

I admire those "pretty" trees but ours is not sophisticated -- it's a mongrel!

  18. I'm with you, I love the trees the best and I love the fresh one the bestest, always a frasier, although I do like Balsam too! What a lovely array of trees, and I like that their not designer looking, but just beautiful! Pink trees just don't do it for me at Christmas time~ Happy New Year Cass,
    Cindy

  22. We have a wee tree in our bathroom too--you can see it in my post about our decorations.
Our large tree is packed away right now so we use our prelit
tabletop tinsel tree and this year I put reds, silvers and frosted ornaments on it plus a garland made of red and white sparkley
    balls.
We have a fiberoptic tree in the living too. the kitchen has two little trees on the island.
Next year I'll have three new teeny tiny fiber optic trees that I
    got from Target after Christmas.
It's good to know that other people "like" to have a lot of trees. :)

    Happy New Year!

    Melinda

  28. All the trees are lovely! But I adore the Wee Tree. lol My favorite ornament I have on my Tree every year is a little childs shoe that has the lace up eyes, we found it in a wall when we were taken it out. We think when the house was built someone probably looked and looked for this child shoe!
