The Small Outdoors, at That Old House

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do.
I'm half crazy, all for the love of you. . . .


It's daisies on Outdoor Wednesday!

We inherited some lovely perennials when we bought That Old House last year, and this summer
they've popped up bigger and better and are fiercely slugging it out for space in the borders:


At the top of the stone wall behind the house, there are daylilies:


Sedum:


and ... daisies!


The daylilies started their lovely long display a couple of weeks ago.


The Sedum are working up to their autumn splendor.


The daisies are just beginning to bloom:


And I chopped their first blossoms right off, to bring inside!
But I left the freeloading critter outside. I am not sure who he is,
or what he is up to, but I suspect he's up to no good!


Yesterday, on the clearance table at Pier One, I found a darling old-fashioned looking vase.
It is an ear of corn, done in great, murky, Arts & Crafts-y colors:


And now it has fulfilled its destiny:


What more could anyone ask for?

Did you notice the "real life" part of this post? Weeds!
They are to our garden what dust is to our house --- our most prolific product!

    Great photos. I can't pass up a good daisy myself. They are such a happy flower. I am in love with sunflowers too for their color and size. I remember when I was younger I would take them and let them soak up food coloring. Hey,
    I do have a craft for some of those young kids to do this summer!

    I often paint daisies in my work. That is one scary looking bug and I'm not afraid of bugs.
    We have the same daylilies, sedum and daisies in our garden.

    I love all of your flowers in this combination. Tell Anne her photos are wonderful. The shot of the sedum,day lilies and daisies is wonderful. How great that you inherited this blooming succession? Someone thought this out. I even like your margined soldier beetle. and the vase sure does look like it is right from the Craftsman era! Beautiful. Now I must go look at my Pier One!

    I loved all of your flowers, but the sedum caught my eye. Moma always called it "Live Forever", as you never had to root it, you could just put it in the dirt and it would grow. I loved the pinkish purple tiny flowers when they open up late Summer I believe. Yours looks so healthy and green. Ofcourse who doesn't look at a daisy and smile. They are so refreshing.     Hi Cass, that old house is lovely!It looks like it's going to reach out and hug you as you run up the steps. Our landscape is a mess after severl constuction projects but I hope to have a nice cottage garden full of daisies next year!
