And so, Lent begins.
If you are someone who gives up something you love
for the six weeks of Lent, and yesterday you
swore off chocolate . . . and today is
Valentine's Day . . . well, hahahahahahaha.
I hope you got flowers today,
or a pretty card, instead of candy!
Not real. Pictures taken at a local dollar store. |
I wonder how many people foreswore parsnips or lima beans
or pickled pigs' feet this year, instead of chocolate?
Tuesday past was Fat Tuesday - Mardi Gras - that last day of indulgence before Lent.
Did you eat pancakes?
Toss beads at strangers?
Dance in the street?
Lift up your shirt in public?
Wear a mask (especially if you did the shirt thing)?
No? Neither did I.
So Tuesday -- Indulgence.
Wednesday -- Contemplation.
Today -- A Celebration of Love.
******************************
Of course, our dogs had to get in on the Valentine's glamour.
Gilda, Queen of Hearts.
Dylan, the Court Jester.
"Seriously, Mom? Can you leave me a shred of dignity?"
"Get this off-a me. Now!"
"Oh well. If I have to wear it, I might as well take a nap."
Everyone at That Old House wishes everyone else (that's you!)
a sweet Valentine's Day, whether you rejoice in a
Significant Other of the human persuasion, a beloved pet,
a good friend, your family, your memories, your dreams,
people with whom you spend your working hours . . .
it's all love,
in all its myriad forms, and it's all good.

How annoyed does this dog look? Yes. Pretty annoyed. |

Thank you so much for the Valentine Greeting - have to do something special for my doggies since there is no one special.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day to you and your dogs are beautiful!
Mary
Love the sweet dogs and their Valentine outfits. They look so content. Happy Valentine's Day to you, too, Cass. (And no, I didn't do any shirt-lifting, lol.)
ReplyDeleteAnd a Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours also. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHi Cass! I'm loving your sweet pooches! Just little dolls and all doggied up for Valentine's Day. Does giving up lard count? :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Cass, The dogs are cute and funny. Hope you have a great day .xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOh how I'm enjoying those doggies of yours! Yup, I'm one of those that gives up Chocolate every year... I got JuJu hearts instead. My DiL used to give up meat every year when she was a teen-ager, was not too hard since she's been a vegetarian since she was about 10!!!! I think that's called cheating!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a LOVEly Day!
gena
Your babies are so precious!! I have a cocker spaniel and she is spoiled to death…but I’m thinking she may need a little sister….. and I think a King Charles Cavalier may be just perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh, don't they look festive!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great day.
M :)
