I returned Sunday evening from 5 days at
our family's beach house out on eastern Long Island.
Whew! I'm exhausted from watching other people work.
Just briefly, a rundown of the major projects over those few days:
The carpet looks a lot like sisal, but it's a practical nylon. It brightens the whole room. |
I didn't have much to do today; no one to watch work! But watching the wind and rough water was enough. |
Pardon the kitchen clutter; things get shoved around while there's work going on.
The shocking stove (and I mean that literally) was pulled out, and is now in the garage,
and we're looking for a cheap an inexpensive replacement.
I don't need any more zingzzzz from pans on the stove.
The kitchen was "fenced" so Dion wouldn't bother the installers; he didn't get kitchen privileges until evening. |
On Saturday, things had dried out enough for the deck work.
Gorgeous long lengths of fresh cedar, hand-hammered into place on the second story deck.
Watching Kevin and his crew kneel on those rafters made my own knees hurt!
After a cloudy morning, a spectacular day, and gorgeous new cedar planks on the upper deck. |
After construction, the whole deck, up and down, got a hand brushed coat of Cabot's sealer.
Which unfortunately kind of covered up the lovely scent of the new cedar!
Note to my brother Lindy: the glider is now off the deck and sitting by the water, next to JR's bench. |
And some other pictures, just to keep up to date.
The right corner bedroom upstairs, with its 3rd coat of Lemon Ice Benjamin Moore paint:
Third coat did the trick. This color is not a good cover-er! |
And the upstairs hall bath, in Moore's Icing On The Cake:
I love this soft aqua. In Moore's Pearl finish, it just kind of glows. |
And down the upstairs hall, toward the family room. . . bright clean Philadelphia Cream:
And finally Dion -- my companion on these trips -- fixated on the dishwasher, Thursday evening.
"I know I saw my dish go in this thing. I hope it comes out again before breakfast!" |

And now, it's after midnight, and I've interrupted assembling this post to watch the news;
my daughter Alida reached me on the computer to tell me to pay attention.
Osama bin Laden is no longer a threat to our country, or to anyone else.
I am grateful to our brave servicemen who carried out this task.

ReplyDeleteNow why exactly did you feel you needed new kitchen flooring? Oh yes, that final picture with Dion and the dishwasher reminded me! ha ha. The house looks great and that's an understatement. I know the blog photos aren't doing justice to the colors. Enjoy every hour you can this summer and we'll all envy you.
ReplyDeleteWow! House looks amazing! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteI was awake and watched all the news on the death of Osama. Proud of our President and all the military!
Wow you guys are doing so much work. Or watching someone else do it, that can be tiring too. I like the choices your are making. It is going to be a great summer there for sure.
ReplyDeleteLooks like and sounds like you have the very best job on the project...supervisor! And from what I see from the pictures you are doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteYou got so much accomplished! The floors and deck look amazing, and your dog is gorgeous too. It's my dream to rehab an old farmhouse. Good for you.
