First of all, thank you so much for responding to my whiny post about having Bloggers' Block. I promise, no more whining -- on to better things! I am taking your excellent advice.
You dished out lots of good suggestions, including getting back out into the field, back into the trenches, back into the fray . . . hitting up those thrifts and shops and online listings . . .so that's what I did! On Wednesday, I tromped through a big antiques-flea-thrift mall, and a high-end antiques co-op, and spent some hours scouring Craigslist for stuff I have to have.
Today, I'm going to pick up these:
I am heading south (slightly) to bring my daughter her digital camera; she forgot it here
and needs it, and these sconces just happen to be at a location that is on my way. Serendipity!

They are iron. Can you see them painted?
White? Bronze? Pewter? Blinding crazy grasshopper green? No.

Other things that are calling my name on Craigslist, and every one of these is under $20:
Cruising the antique and furniture listings daily on Craigslist around here is almost a full time job;
there are pages and pages added every day. And that is just northern New Jersey.

How do you like this old wood bowl?
I think I need it, don't you?
What would you like from this string of Craigslist lovelies?

And now I know I need to hit the road; time's a-wasting, and I promised
I'd be picking up those candle sconces in about 90 minutes. Time to strap on the roller skates!

Thanks for all the encouragement and understanding. You ladies rock.
And speaking of encouragement, take a look at the bloggers who have joined these
blog parties today; loads of great stuff to go green (as in envy) over!

And that's it for today!
I hope to be back tomorrow . . . stay tuned. All the best -- Cass
Oh boy - I wish I had your Craig's list territory. I've had a look, recently, at what's on offer in these parts. Let's just say that an awful lot of people are trying to unload that horrible pecan, fake-Spanish dining room furniture. Remember? The stuff with the high backed chairs and too much machine-pressed 'carving'.....and there's nothing for $20.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the drought is over...I'd love to paint that white table. Especially if it's under $20...much envy here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Don't you just love Carig's List. I search that thing every single day. I have one of those old wooden bowls. I think it's handcarved, but not sure. I have some pears and twig balls sitting in mine.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a Craigslist search in awhile! You've inspired to go lookin again soon:)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from justsewsassy.com
Oh you give me serious antique envy. Here in the desert we have the poorest antique shops. Another friend up in Oregon also has wonderful finds like you do. What I have to sacrifice just to have warm weather! **kisskiss** Deb
ReplyDeleteThe sconces are great, Cass. I'd love to see what you do with them. I wish I had your luck with Craigslist...you make it sound so fun. I love that bowl, too. So 'Farmhousey'!!

That is some great stuff on craigslist. No so much in our area. I love that little white stand. It is just too cute. Love the center pediment. Have a fun day.
ReplyDeleteOooooo.... I like that vintage desk! I have a thing for desks.... Don't know why!! lOL!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Day!!

I do like those sconces! Don't remember who, but a blogger recently painted some candle sticks with brushed bronze that turned out pretty. I have never bought anything on CL.
ReplyDeleteCass, I want your CL!! Ours isn't nearly that good. And I want them all!

Love your furniture. I have not tried Craig's list but might look into it. olive♥
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to use Craig's List. From what I understand, it's not all that great in our area, however, my son says it's great. What do I know?? lol But with your luck, think I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteIs there Craig's List etiquette? Do we swap the item and the money at the same time and run?? Meet in a public place. This inquiring mind wants to know. ;-)
Love your posting!

Everybody needs a break from blogging now and then. I am glad yours is over!
ReplyDeleteGet that desk! Paint it cream!
What have you done to your house lately?
So, Cass...did you you get the sconces and maybe something else along the way?
ReplyDeleteYour craig list is awesome. Love those sconces! And the two middle tables -- ours here is sort of sad!
ReplyDeleteUPDATE --- I got the sconces, and they are gorgeous! Even nicer than I'd hoped.
ReplyDeleteNothing else today -- I had other obligations. But as Scarlett said, "Tomorrow is another day!"
Cass
Love the sconces! And that looks like a walnut Renaissance Revival table under that ghastly white paint. If the veneer is good on top I would snap it up.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that little desk and have the perfect place for it.
ReplyDeleteThose are amazing deals! Love all those cute tables!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT ;)
I'm all about the white table.
ReplyDeleteGreat sconces...can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are BACK! Sometimes it just takes a little break to get going again.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Melinda
There are amazing things on CL is you have the patience to search them out. And in my town garage sales are the way to go. It's so much fun finding something really special even if you don't need it. Happy hunting.
ReplyDeleteOoh Ooh Ooh!!!! May I have them all? Failing that any one of the tables is very desirable.
ReplyDeleteLove your finds.
I love Craig....and what great finds you have today!! The first table is so cute!!! I have spray paint here just waiting for the right project~ Happy "late" VTT!
ReplyDeleteI like craigslist too. always good bargains to be found. Lately though I have noticed some dealers posting good stuff for low prices then claiming it sold just a while ago when you call kinda like used car salesman with their "But we have a Buick!"
ReplyDeleteI love all your finds. Glad to see you are unblocked and blogging away.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Oh goodness, yes, I would make you all the dishcloths you could hope for in exchange for that desk!
ReplyDeleteWould you like a dozen fresh eggs too?
Oops, me again - forgot something.
ReplyDeleteI see you've subscribed to my writing blog, and I thank you. I've subscribed to you also, but from one of my other blogs (Marie Anne's Missives).
I'm having a giveaway for everyone that is subscribed to WWI, but you have to leave a comment on a particular post so I can keep track of who's in. Head on over to http://www.writewrongorindifferent.com/ again and look at the top right for the post about the giveaway.
I'll probably wrap it up this weekend and I don't want you to miss out!
Wow! Maybe I should check out Craigslist!!
ReplyDeleteHappy (late) VTT!
Sarah
Hi Cass! I love your sconces...so pretty! And you certainly found some great goodies on Craigs list! Nothing like a little thrifting to get your blogging juices flowing again! I am tickled to hear that you have some spooners. They were new to me! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteEach one is under $20? What great finds... I especially like numbers two and three with their traditional dark wood.
