Red, White, and Timeless

Outside, it is still all white. I took a picture this morning, through the conservatory windows:

Dion has the right idea. He's napping through the worst of the winter's weather.
He was up late last night, watching the Westminster Dog Show, cheering for his favorites.

That's about as much outdoor as I'm getting today, except to dash to the car
through some persistent light snow flurrying. But inside, something new.

*************************************************************************************

Ever since daughter Anne raided -- I mean shopped -- our house for furnishings for her apartment, we've been short on table lamps. I've had trouble finding what I like. In an old home, I love a classic urn or ginger jar, its porcelain curves covered in a stylized Asian design.

If you can find them new, they cost the moon, and look too . . . new.

Vintage things need that hint of dust in their tiniest corners, as if time has gotten stuck in the nooks and crannies.
You need that little bit of fuzzy-wuzzy that will only come out on the point of a dampened toothpick; it blurs any sharp or shiny edges.

I keep an eye on vintage table lamps offered on Ebay, and recently I bid. All out -- ten bucks. I won!
Yesterday, through the steady snowfall, the UPS man tossed the box up on my front porch,
where it skidded to a stop against the front door.

Inside:

I love the touches of red and turquoise, the black, the dull gold color. . . .

I even like the scratches; this gal's been around the block a couple of times.

I'm not sure where she's going to perch, but after I give her a cleaning and find the right lampshade,
I think she'll migrate into the parlor. Her colors seem right.

Yesterday, I won another lamp on Ebay -- 99 cents. Not old, but I think it will work in our front hallway; we'll see.
If it doesn't, maybe Annie can use it!

  9. Wow - You are getting some great deals! $10 and 99cts. The UPS man slid it to your door?!?! It must have been packed well. I laughed at your comment about dust in the tiniest corners. I was looking at pics. of some things in an upcoming estate sale and most everything is covered in years of dust.

  27. Cass, I love all of your things, but mostly I love that you do have a bit of dust and dog bowls in your pictures! She's real, she's really real! lol Stop over and take a look at my little table, whew! Now onto the coffee tables.. what was I thinking? You know, I always do this to myself, start something huge that I have to finish, but luckily, I have either gone mad or am on my way. :)
