Where do you think we went?
To the shore, with its white foamy waves . . .
and aqua water?
Ummm... not exactly.
We went to the basement of a church, where one of New Jersey's best thrift shops is housed.
It is open only one day in the summer. One day! And we were there.
I found a few things for Anne's apartment.
I hope she won't like them, because then I get to keep them.

A few teasing pictures:
And all will be revealed next week!

And speaking of next week, please visit That Old House on Monday.
I need your help!
This is our parlor:
Notice what is on the coffee table. 6 coasters.
That is all. 6 coasters.
(Really. 4 stone, 2 beaded.)

We use this room for pre-dinner drinks with guests, or for dessert,
so that old coffee table holds lots of sweaty cold glasses and hot cups of coffee.

I'm not eager to gussy up the coffee table,
although I'd like to come up with a more attractive system for coasters!
But I do want to gussy up the mantle above the fireplace, so it doesn't look,
as my Grandmother used to say, "Like dead people live there."

Clearly, the stinky old flower-water and spent-petals look is not working:
Ick.
Over the course of the weekend, I am going to shop the house and try out a few different looks for this mantle. I'll post them for Metamorphosis Monday, and I would really appreciate your input.
Come back Monday and vote, yay or nay, on the Mantlepiece Poll! -- Cass
I can't wait, Cass. That will be fun!
ReplyDeleteI can't guess what goodies you found at the church thrift shop either. Looking forward to that too.

Oh, how you love to tease us, Miss Cass........I cannot wait to see. As for the coffee table, do you have a nice lidded box or bowl that you could place the coasters in while not in use? And for the mantle, would you want to add some bronze/or black paint/aging to the mirror above the mantle? it would echo the lovely dark wing backs. I am sure you have the makings for a beautiful mantle-scape!!! Can't wait to see.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
Looking forward to your Met Mon. post. I bet some of your thrift shop "finds" will be on the table and the mantle????

Looks like you found some wonderful things at the thrift store, but I can't tell what. I can't wait to see the MM post. Seems we're all in the mood to change things around. I redid my LR for MM. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWhat an intriguing post - I'll be back for sure!!!!
ReplyDelete.........like dead people live here. May I use that sometime, please? I love it!
ReplyDeleteYup - time to do something about that coffee table and mantle. I look forward to the 'reveal'.
I also suggest what someone else did - Maybe a pretty container to put the coasters in. Looking forward to seeing what treasures you found.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do to your mantle. I had a piece of glass cut fo rmy coffee table. I'd rather clean glass than try to get ring marks off the top of it. Very interesting tease. Can't wait to see what you bought. Your pictures look like it is a a lava lamp?!! laurie
ReplyDeleteI have no clue what you bought at the thrift sale but it sounds like it must have been a good time if it is only 1 day a year! Wow!!
ReplyDeleteI love your parlor. I am not a fan of coasters. I have a small tray on my coffee table to place drinks. My daughter says my living room looks like a funeral parlor because of all the floral furniture. She and your grandmother would be laughing and elbowing each other over us!!
I think someone should have a mantle party. BEFORE the holidays. I want to see what everyone decorates with on a regular basis, not a holiday. My mantle never seems...right. What to you think?
xoxo
Jane
Cass,
ReplyDeleteYou know the dead flowers and stinky water effect has never really worked for me either, and I have tried it a few times, go figure! Can't wait to see what you found!
