Raining, and Even The Dogs Are Lazy

For the second morning, we've come downstairs to the
tic-tic-tic of rain on the sunroom roof.
It's the growing season, and the rain is welcome and much-needed, but still . . .
it is also gloomy, it is damp and icky, and it makes you lazy.
Well, it makes me lazy.  It even makes my dogs lazy.

I am so lazy that I'm recycling a Tablesetting post
from February 2011.  Fresh blog fodder tomorrow, I promise!

Sometimes the smallest parties are the sweetest.
Won't you join me in the dining room?
 We'll keep the lights low.
You won't notice the dust then.  Did I say that out loud?
You're the guest; where would you like to sit?
Good choice.  You get the best view from the end of the table.
Now, I wonder what we'll have for dinner?
Should I have thought about that ahead of time?
The smoke must have befuddled my brain.
Chinese maybe?  Anything would look delicious on these old Aynsley plates.
We've got the monogrammed silver out for you.
And the funky mid-century glasses, with their gold and turquoise.
 Wine?  You betcha.
Although I've always thought a good Scotch goes very well with Chinese food.
Or pretty much anything.
Even the linen napkins have gotten dolled up.
They are their own neckties.

A wildly goofy piece of Italian majolica holds
glittered faux fruit and a few flowers and ribbons.

I confess.
The flowers
are faux.

As in, fake.
How daring.
Don't call the
HGTV police!

 A hastily tossed-together centerpiece.
Necessity being an effective motivator.
Ah, the obligatory stomach's-eye view of the tablesetting.
And that's it.  Now, who's going to call China Garden and order?

What I used in the table setting:
China -- Aynsley's Tatton Hall -- thrift shop find 2 years ago
Flatware -- Georgian pattern plate, various monograms, very vintage -- ca. 1912
Rocks glasses -- mid-20th century, gold leafed, were my parents' Scotch glasses
Double old-fashioned glasses -- Goodwill find, turquoise & gold, set of 6
Wine glasses -- handblown tulips, ca. 1970s, wedding presents
Majolica centerpiece bowl -- Goodwill (seven dollars!) - sold at my antiques booth for $55
Napkins -- New old stock, eBay, last fall
Crystal candlesticks -- various Tiffany, Lord & Taylor, and Big Lots finds
Crocheted runner -- can't remember!  I think my Mom gave it to me, with a smaller matching piece
Glittered, beaded, gold-leafed fruits -- Dollar Tree, Michael's, and the mists of time . . .

I think that's it!

Go and see more tables, 'way better than this one!
Susan's Tablescape Thursday is an amazing gathering of tablesetting genius.
It's all happening at Between Naps On The Porch.
Where Susan also has a post from a couple of days ago
about Mario Buatta, and who doesn't love The Prince of Chintz?

I'm going to call China Garden now . . . .You like General Tsao's Chicken? -- Cass

  1. A cool and rainy spring day is a lovely time to curl up and contemplate. After all, there is going to be a lot to do once the rain stops - planting, weeding, sweeping paths.....relax while you can!

  2. We've had a fair amount of rain as well which is much welcome -- we've been "droughty" for a couple of years -- Hope this helps! It looks, however, as if the sun is about to come out -- drat, and I was hoping to spend the day inside "puttering" -- looks as if the garden calls!

  3. Been rainy and cool here in NC for weeks hope you have a great rest of the week

  4. Yes, we really had some downpours this morning. I have a sleeping dog too....she is also wet and smelly at the moment!

  5. I love rain, it's so cozy and I usually feel like the dogs too, lol.. Your table is stunning, I'd love to go for Chinese at your house, and who cares about the faux flowers, when the china, flatwear and glasses are gorgeous! Have a happy Mother's Day.

  6. Our rain seems to be gone.. FINALLY... GOOD RIDDANCE!! It was welcome at first but after about 4 days I was ready to kill Mother Nature. Sun is out today and we enjoyed a bit of it in the front yard this morning.. YAY !

  7. Great tablescape...thanks for sharing! This would be perfect to link-up to my new series - "Create It Thursday." It's live now!

  8. Love your pretty table. Noticed the crocheted piece right off. And those wonderful glasses! The candleholders are wonderful too. great photos of the candlelight. xo marlis

  9. Love all the candles! I loved so much in this post! Your photos are great too!
