What T.B.D.B.T. List? One Day, Folks!

There is an Old Wives' Tale - When your
squirrels are chubby in the Fall,
you are in for a rough winter.
Uh-oh.
One of our local squirrels,
perched on a fence post outside our sunroom.

Bring on the snuggies and the galoshes, friends.
I'm abandoning all hope of a mild winter.

But tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day 2012, will be a lovely day.

Which is a mixed blessing;
brilliant afternoon sun on the west side of the house
highlights how really schmutzig the windows are.
Me?  I like a day with good cloud cover when I give thanks.

Supermarket flowers, waiting to be transformed into centerpieces.

My T.B.D.B.T List?
(To Be Done By Thanksgiving.)
Ha.  Ha.  Ha.
Between one thing and another, including this:

pretty much nothing got done.

Although we did hang the matchstick blinds in the study.
I am thankful for even that small thing.
(Which I call small, because Howard did all the work
and I just had to watch and supervise.  He loves that.)

Meanwhile, at That Old House, preparations continue for
tomorrow's feast and love fest.

Mmmm . . . chopped onions and celery, getting all
hot and bothered and ready for the stuffing.

Our biggest blessing?
A family which really enjoys family gatherings.
And, of course, a full refrigerator.
The turkey, a modest 28 pounder, is in the fridge downstairs.
So it's really two full refrigerators.  Come help us eat!

Next on the food prep list?
Hot artichoke dip, two apple pies,
one walnut pie, and a pumpkin cheesecake.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
You lookin' at ME?

I'll be back to say Hi soon, and share a picture of
this year's pin-up boy:  Howard in his turkey shirt!

  4. Ha Ha , like your window comment. I understand. And the fat squirrel, haven't seen any here but we could do with a good freeze this winter to kill the bugs. Last year spring bloomed in January I think.

    Have a good Thanksgiving!

  6. Dylan looks very comfy there!
I get it about the windows. I did sweep the siding on the front porch today.
The full fridge is a delight! I saw a few things in there I could covet.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. A 28 lb turkey? Oh my. Enjoy Thanksgiving Cass and try to rest up as your plate has been spilling over with too much distracting and stressful stuff.

  8. Wow......I remember the days of a 28 lb turkey. This year ours is 11 lbs. So glad you've got your daughter home to help out since Dylan and his dad are obviously otherwise engaged. Looking forward to the turkey shoot - I mean the turkey shirt. Have a great day.

  9. That is one fat squirrel! Have not noticed any really fat ones here, but they have been filling up on the acorns and hickory nuts.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  10. That squirrel is a real chub...My mother is in the hospital and has been there since a week ago Monday. We thought she would be coming home today, but that is not the case. It looks as though she will have to have surgery to remove adhesions which are causing an obstruction. So, I will be with my lovely (not) sister and her boyfriend and my cousin...and then we'll take turns going over to the hospital. I hope you all enjoy your day tomorrow. That picture of Dylan and Howard is priceless! Happy Thanksgiving...hope to see you soon!

  12. Love the fat squirrel. I think MyHero is preparing for a cold winter, too.....just sayin'. I love that you are preparing for your family dinner and a happy return of the Turkey Shirt! Blessings to you and your family. xo Diana ps. I have never had walnut pie! Do you make it like pecan pie?

  13. I did way too much entertaining during cloudy days and at my last lunch, the sun shone and shone brightly . . . . "spotlighting" way too many cobwebs and specs of dust (now where did those come from -- I had been cleaning!)
So I understand your window comment!

And I understand about the TBDBT list -- my little accident last Wednesday and subsequent gimpiness left so many things undone that I was at critical point yesterday and gimpiness and all had to accomplish A LOT!!!! And I did -- or almost -- didn't get to the kitchen cabinets -- the kids came way too early!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to Howard in Turkey Shirt 2012 picture!

Dolly is looking forward to a visit from Happy Frank -- she says she's been a good dog . . . and I did "steal" from you and posted about Dolly and Happy Frank but I did refer to you and Dion and even linked!

I think Happy Frank is as brilliant as The Great Pumpkin!

    Have a great Thanksgiving!

  15. oh well...your completed list just wasn't meant to be. But I'm sure you had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with all that bounty and that's all that matters, right?
A 28-pounder!! The biggest I could find was 22 lbs and it's almost gone...so much for those cold turkey sandwiches :(
    Have a great weekend.

  16. That is one fat squirrel Cass! Well, considering it is snowing at the moment, maybe that theory is correct! Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! We had a 26 lb turkey and a ham. We always host that day and as much as I love it, I am glad it's over. Have a great week!
