So Who Has Brown Transferware NOW, huh?

Every time I see a blog post that
features brown and white transferware china, I pout.

Because I don't have any.
Only now, I do.

Thanks to Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and New Jersey.

I don't have a lot of it.  And I'm not saying it's old and valuable.
But 4 dinner plates in Meakin's Fair Winds pattern
for just a few bucks is fine by me.  It's a start.  Don't tell Howard.
He gets nervous when I say things like, "It's a start . . . ."

While at Goodwill, I also snatched up 4 pieces of china in the
Finlandia pattern, because who doesn't love blue and white?
Some are Myott, some Churchill.   All are pretty.

And then a little bit of dull silver caught my eye.
Lookee here:

A 1950s aluminum Lazy Susan, working condition, and in good shape
for an old gal who's taken more than a few spins 'round the block in her time.
(No, I don't mean me.  I'm not in as good shape as Susan here.)

She doesn't have her glass insert for the middle of the Lazy Susan, but most
of these old relics don't.  Glass breaks, especially when it's spinning around on a piece of metal.
But I experimented, and it's amazing how many other dishes fit nicely in that center dip.
I think this piece is headed for the booth after a good cleaning.

Anyway, that was Thursday's trip to Goodwill, while I was waiting for Dion to finish up at the groomer's.
On Friday I worked at the antiques center.  I haven't spent much time at all at the computer this week.
My bad -- Cass

  1. Wow your GW is good...I go and go and ours has nothing! Maybe someday.
Love the transferware...the brown is great and when I went to visit Richard at My Old Historic Home, his entire laundry room was filled with it. Great aluminum piece too.

  3. You found some wonderful pieces, Cass! I LOVE transferware of any colour but especially red. There is not much to be found here where I live, unfortunately. But I would love to collect some blue, brown, green, violet, etc. too. I love it all. You did well! Hope you're having a great weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  6. You always find the best things -- love that blue and white! And I like the brown transfer ware too -- I love blue and white but I am just drawn to ANY color of transfer ware -- those 4 plates are a nice start and the one good thing about transfer ware is that it all doesn't have to match (Spode's blue room definitely proved that commercially!)

    Great finds!

  7. You found some great pieces. The GW's around here just don't have much to offer.
No - Not your Bad! You are doing what makes you happy and that is a "My Good"! :-D
    Enjoy your weekend.

  11. I'm assuming Howard is in another room when you bring your "starter treasures" into the house? It's amazing what one can slip in on any given moment. I love those transferware plates. I have two pieces of the brown that belong to hubby's grandmother.

Nice looking old lazy Susan too. You mean it's not a "start" with her? xo Diana

  14. Great finds, Cass! Brown is one color of transferware I have very little of...right now I am looking for more of Meakin's green 'Romantic England'...I just love it!

  15. Yay on your treaured finds!! Hubby doesn't know about my transferware either. I was fortunate enough to be able to put it on layaway and finally paid it off recently. Which reminds me...I need to go pick it up!!

  16. What fantastic finds! I love transferware. We have a set of blue willow, but I recently fell in love with red/pink transferware. I haven't bought any yet, but I sure want to!
