Tea With The Johnson Boys

Blue and White.
Classic.
And nothing's more classic than blue and white china
from England's Johnson Brothers pottery.

About 30 years ago, I fell in love with a Johnson Bros. pattern called Indies Blue,
and bought a service for 8 at Macy's in New York, and added to it over the years.

It's moved from house to house with us,
and now lives the good life on Jabba The Hutch, in our kitchen. . .

. . .where lots of my blue and white dishes cohabit.

Last week, in a thrift shop a bit south of here, I found an Indies Blue
coffee pot -- a small one -- for a really small price.  Six dollars.  Now it lives here, too.

On this Tuesday, it's come out to pose with its blue-and-white buddies, in a tea time setting.

My $6 coffee pot, come to play at tea time.
Care for a cuppa?

That's it!
Now I can go back to doing what I'm supposed to be doing, and put the Indies Blue back on the hutch.

I've said it before; you're never to old to play with dolls, or dishes. -- Cass

  4. Shape is a lot of what I like about pottery, and your coffeepot has a lovely "figga." I've said before those are my sis's dishes and I've always loved/envied them! She got them as a bride.

  7. What a great find and it does set a pretty table doesn't it? That coffee pot is perfect -- for I know how much you LOVE coffee!!! Keep your eyes open, you'll never know when you'll find more. My "the one that got away" was a HUGE teapot -- must have been at least 10 cups -- not a bad price and we were even driving (so no "plane" issues) -- and I left it -- I am forever sorry that I did -- and I'm not really sure WHY I did!

And I must say that Johnson Brothers Indies always "plays well with others" (as in other blue and white) -- they always look nice together!

  13. Hi Cass,
Well, I love the Johnson Boys {they made Rose Chintz too} so you know I'm loving your Indies pattern. That is quite the deal you got on the coffee pot! How gorgeous it all looks and you have so many wonderful pieces. I would love to collect Indies too but I can't collect everything, right? I loved seeing your blue and whites. Thanks for sharing and joining me for tea today.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  16. I don't think Indies blue has caught my eye . I have a lot of blue and white . I have Johnsons Indian Tree , that is very pretty . I also have a lot of the pink and white, made by various people .
I have recently changed the pink to blue in the kitchen .
I will put 2 pics on my blog today . Please take a look

  19. What a great find. I love your blue and white collection.
When I first started reading about 'hutches' I was really confused. I was looking for something with a rabbit in it, lol. Over here we would call them dressers. See, I am more enlightened for visiting Blogland!

  20. I can't believe I am not familiar with that beautiful pattern! I LOVE Johnson Bros. dishes, but don't recall ever seeing these before. At first sight, I was thinking Blue Danube, but I like these even better! I have a set of Blue Willow (makes me think of my maternal grandmother), but hubby doesn't care for them!

I think my teapot looks VERY similar to yours...I'm going to hunt down a photo to compare. Very pretty vignette.
