So On Saturday, I Went To Goodwill. . . .

What does a girl do on her 406th birthday?

She tosses her willing accomplice -- hereinafter known as Daughter Anne -- into the car, and heads over to the Goodwill Industries store, of course.

What, you didn't know that? Look it up.

So on Saturday, that's just what I did. I went to Goodwill.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but these babies, right in the front window:

Turquoise and gold drinking glasses.

Tumblers.
I can't swear to their age, but they've clearly got a few miles on their odometers.

Can anyone say, "Tom Collins-es on the porch?"

They are the perfect size for a tall, cool, grownup summer drink.

I am not sure if I'm going to keep them.
I've been having fun selling a few things on Etsy and eBay, so I may list these for sale. Jury's out on that.

And since it's illegal in 37 states, including New Jersey, to leave Goodwill
with only one purchase, I also got this:

It's a cocktail shaker, and it's chrome and not silverplate; easier maintenance.
It says "chromium" on the bottom. It's also got nice vertical Art Deco-ish lines on the sides.
Very sleek. And in excellent condition, too. I like shiny things.

(And that's me in the reflection; I am not sure why I look like Quasi Modo,
but the mirrors in the Coney Island Fun House are nothing compared to this martini shaker. Eek.)

And that's it! My accomplice in these trips, Anne, is heading back to her own digs today for a spell;
I may have to go thrifting on my own! -- Cass

  9. Cass,
Great finds! Love Goodwill. And thrifting in general. I've been promising myself a trip there for the last few weeks. And Salvation Army. And consignment shops - we've lots of them. And one mustn't forget....shopping the curb!

  10. These remind me of a set my parents had and if I'm not mistaken, they are from the late 50s. Very cool!

I miss going to the Goodwill with my granddaughter and all the other places we haunted before I moved. I'm heading back to the Gulf at the end of the month and she already said she is reserving Saturday for bargain hunting with me, yipee!

  11. Tom Collins on the porch, I love the sound of that! I've been experimenting with blender drinks, but a cocktail shaker would be fun to play with! ;-D

Thanks for the compliments on my kitchen. It's not finished yet, if you didn't notice the windows which will be painted white. We are taking the summer off from working! lol!

  12. I don't know if it is illegal in Washington State to leave the Goodwill without at least 3 items. I will be sure to use that to convince myself and my hubby that it is o.k. to keep looking after finding i or 2 items. Your home is lovely.

  13. Oh, those lovely glasses remind me of my mom's favorite cocktail circa late 1950's, early sixties.I used to sneak a sip when she wasn't looking! Yeah, I did that! lol

  14. Your 406th birthday, huh? Wow, you sure get around good for such an old lady!! In fact, that makes you the oldest person I "know"! After 406 years is it still possible to enjoy one's birthday? I mean, how much cake can a person eat?? (LOL!) Hope your day was the best one yet!

We had a set of glassware very much like your's when I was growing up. Not quite as much turquoise, but the style was about the same. Still look pretty to me!

  25. They're not like anything I've ever seen at a Goodwill store. I think you should have a couple of swish cocktail parties before you part with this set.

  26. Love the glasses....and daughters ARE handy for forced shopping, aren't they?

    Warm blessings,

  27. Brilliant discoveries - especially when found together. Do enjoy a "grown-up" drink or two out on the verandah from them.

  29. Your glasses are beautiful! I have an obsession with vintage glasses...they're usually affordable enough that I just can't help myself, even if we have no more room in the cupboards. They often make lovely vases as well.

  30. I love those glasses and the chromium thing! I would've bought those! Neat!
I was just reading your comment on my post about foster puppies. Thank you! I love hearing other's stories regarding fostering! You are so awesome w/ the "special" adoptions!
    This made me laugh!

Of course, we used to joke that someday our girls will go to psychiatrists, and when they are on the analysts' couch will say, "...and then our parents kept giving our pets away ..."
