It's Popping Poppies at That Old House

No matter how small our piece of God's great outdoors may be,
the seasons play out and astound us with their changes.

Just 3 months ago the scene outside our sunroom looked like this:

Six weeks ago, this -- with a small clump of infant poppy leaves in the lower right:

Last week -- a lone poppy bloomed.

And today . . . a whole mess o'poppies in bloom!

Enjoy their funkalicious blossoms in closeup:

Poppies are not the only reds popping out at That Old House:

These charming old fashioned roses are favorites of mine, and also the deer.
They are doomed.

Out in Southold, at the beach house,
the white wild roses are just beginning their summer-long display:

They pop up through the yews at the edge of the lower deck.

  1. So far only one lonely poppy has popped out at Pondside - but lots of furry bulbs ready to go as soon as the sun shines.

  7. So pretty. Even the snow is pretty. But glad it is gone. By the end of summer I will be wanting it back. Cooler weather anyway. I don't stay happy long. :)

  20. Hi Cass,
Very pretty poppies. For some reason I am saying that with an English accent in my head, good thing you also have some beautiful roses or I might be stuck with an English accent the rest of my life! Love the linens you found too!

  21. Cass,

Beautiful pictures - gorgeous poppies. We go back to Maine next weekend and with any luck mine will wait until I get there to "pop".
