The First Iris Blooms!

It greeted us this morning --
the first iris to open its wild and woolly petals for the season.

We've been watching it all week. It's peach and white.

Howard got up close and personal with his camera.

I love the texture. Can you imagine a fabric with the texture of the
very lightest part of the petals, with their almost-not-there stripes?

Isn't it spectacular? I adore iris blossoms. They just may be my favorite spring flower.
Along with tulips, poppies, bleeding hearts, lilacs, peonies . . . .

I'm hoping that in one week, on the day of my Dad's 90th birthday party at That Old House, all the irises will be in full bloom. They wear their party clothes so beautifully, don't they?

What is your favorite spring bloom?

You are invited to visit Bargain Hunting and Chatting With Laurie,

Meanwhile, Howard and I are heading out . . . yes, a Craigslist pickup, plus a visit to the paint store and Home Depot. Have a wonderful weekend! -- Cass

  1. Words can not adequately describe the beauty of your Iris!! Spectacular!!
My favorite Spring flower is the Peony......My Grandmother had them lining her driveway. She died when I was not yet a teenager & inspite of the passage of time .....everytime I smell one it brings her back to me!! A bitter sweet memory!! How I loved her......

  2. What a pretty color, Cass! I have had purples, yellows and white bloom already...Christine

  3. Absolutely beautiful! Mine have been in bloom several weeks now. It's so excting to watch them bloom isn't it? I don't have this one, it's fabulous and reminds me of a fresh peach cobbler with whipped topping. I love it!

  4. Oh the colors are gorgeous! I don't have any iris' planted. I need to add them to my flower beds!

  5. Gorgeous!! I love the colors!

    Happy Mother's Day!

  6. I love irises too! They come in so many different colors! Most of mine have gone by already and I miss them. :0)

  7. Oh so pretty indeed -- I have a spring long list of my favorites too, and Howard did good on taking the best macros.

I once tried to buy a dilapidated old ramshackle of a house because the whole 1/2 ac front yard was filled with beautiful Irises-- the bank manager said to me -- my dear -- just ask them for some of the bulbs. So move over dandelion flowers the Irises are coming.

    Have a joyful week end.

  8. LOVE the peach- just gorgeous! And what Craigslist treasure did you find this week?? :)
    Happy Mother's Day!
