One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others. . . .

Any parent who has sat through endless hours of Sesame Street recognizes that title phrase; it is the first line in a Sesame Street song, and viewers are challenged to find the one item among several that is not exactly like the others.

Most of us past the age of 22 months can usually dope this out when it's on Sesame Street.
But in real life? Not always!

************************************************************************************

Here are several pictures of That Old House. Which one does not belong?

Hint: it has nothing to do with holiday decorations, or angle of the photograph, or the weather, or the time of year.
The difference is in the house itself. Howard and I both missed it!

Did you spot it? Do you see? If so, you are sharper-eyed than I.

I didn't spot it in any of the pictures; in fact I posted the "not like the other" picture
last Wednesday, here, and never noticed the difference.

I didn't see it until just the other day, driving past my own house,
looking up at it from the road, and thinking: "Hey! What the heck?"

If you don't spot it, I'll tell you tomorrow -- although I'm sure someone will find it and comment!

And as April drifts in on gentle breezes, with mercury pushing 90, the spring perennials at That Old House are popping. Howard took his new DSLR camera out into the sunshine.

And he caught one of those Moments Of Truth that are all too common at That Old House:
This is our kitchen window; note the creative slant of the shutter on the right.
Who says good design must be symmetrical? :-P

Note that crazy crazing, too. I count at least 4 different greens on those peeling boards.

But there's great beauty here, too.
I put some of Howard's April images in a mosaic, and there is also something in it that clearly doesn't belong!

Yes, in the upper left corner -- it is Mr. Ernie, a charming steam engine of a Yellow Lab who lives with my sister and her family, and is Dion's doggy cousin. They are rather terrified of one another in real life, but they are good chums on Facebook.

  4. Cass-The question is "did you find the shutter?". I was glad someone spotted it before I spent hours looking--because I would have :)Loved Howard's pictures. I think that leaning and peeling shutter is just fine. I prefer to think of it as having character rather than blemishes :)

  7. I have never been the observant kind, so I missed the shutter too. Where is it? Did it fly off in a storm?

  12. I figured it out quickly, did you find the shutter? I hope it didn't damage anything when it came down. Ours are incredibly heavy, but we only have them on the front of the house.

  19. Love that old house and that grand front porch.

A lot of work when you have to take down all those shutters and paint that house.

    Nice collage too,
